For the lost souls who come out at night craving caffeine, the Blue Dragon is the ideal alternative to early afternoon closers. Practically a 24-hour coffeehouse, the Blue Dragon rarely rests. Early morning crowds nurse post-party pains with potions labeled 'Waking the Dead' or 'Crash Test Dummy,' java jolts guaranteed to jumpstart the day. The very sweet and potent 'Dragon Shot,' a short double of espresso with chocolate and steamed half-and-half, is thrown back here like whiskey in old westerns. A cache of coffees, tons of teas, Italian sodas, cherry cider and raspberry coolers are here for the ordering. The 'Blue' menu covers breakfast pizzas to Cajun gumbo and emphasizes fresh organic ingredients keeping the needs of vegans in mind at all times. Grab a latte late in the day and stay for live local music performed nightly. As far as Dragon decor, well, you've probably seen bad bachelor pads that looked better. Completely uncoordinated but comfortably broken-in yard sale selections, restaurant booth rejects, bookshelves, fish tanks and a couple indescribably awful lamps round out the fun and funky furnishings which give the Blue Dragon that kick-back-and-chill feeling.
